DIREITO GV PROMOTES CONFERENCE ON ARBITRATION (FATOR BRASIL MAGAZINE)

Regulated by Law 9307/96, the arbitration has already gained the preference of large companies due to greater flexibility in conflicts resolution. According to a survey produced by Professor Selma Ferreira Lemes, DIREITO GV  arbitration course, the amounts involved in arbitration grew 42% in 2008, reaching R$ 844 million, compared to R$ 594 million traded in 2007. Data were provided by five major arbitration chambers of the country.

Given this situation, the DIREITO GV in partnership with FGV Chamber of Conciliation and Arbitration, promotes the Colloquium "Whither Arbitration in Brazil Goes to", on next Wednesday, day 03, at the school headquarters.

The first topic to be discussed is "Whither Arbitration in Brazil Goes to?", featuring Eduardo Damião Gonçalves, DIREITO GV’s professor and president of the Brazilian Arbitration Committee (CBAr); Pedro Batista Martins, member of the Rapporteur Committee of Arbitration Law, visiting professor and coordinator of undergraduate courses at FGV (Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo). This exhibition moderator is Clávio Valencia, Law professor at GV.

The second more specific theme, will be "¨The Arbitration Scope of Energy and Aviation: Context, Actors and Hindrances", with the participation of Fulvio Luiz Delicato Filho, partner at Delicato Consulting  and arbiter of FGV Chamber of Conciliation and Arbitration; Gilberto Giusti, partner at Pinheiro Neto and vice-president of International Arbitration Bar Association (IBA). The table moderator is Salem Nasser, Law professor of GV and Coordinator of Global Law Nucleus.

Subsequently, those interested must register to participate in videoconference "Location, Relocation and Autonomy: the Problem of Legal Order Base and Instance Arbitration Effectiveness with Emmanuel Gaillard Professor at Université Paris XII and Chairman of the International Arbitration Institute (IAI) with professor  Clávio Valença’s mediation.

The fourth exhibition will address "Arbitration and Judiciary", with Rafael Francisco Alves, a member of the Brazilian Arbitration Committee (CBRa) and Selma Ferreira Lemes, member of the Rapporteur Committee of Arbitration Law, CCI’s Latin American Group coordinator. Moderation will be held by Paulo Eduardo Alves da Silva, Law professor at GV.

In closing, the final table will address the "Intercurrences in Arbitration: admissibility request for arbitration examination, impugnation and destituition of the arbiter and precautionary measure" with the participation of Luiz Fernando Teixeira Pinto, former member of CCI’s International Arbitration Court and advisory director of the Brazilian Arbitration Committee (CBRa) and Pedro Paulo Cristofaro, legal director of the FGV Chamber of Conciliation and Arbitration.
